Planet Paleo is delighted to announce it has been awarded MSC UK Newcomer of the Year 2023 in a landmark achievement for a UK food supplement brand. The award recognises Planet Paleo’s Marine Collagen peptides supplement, which was launched in 2021 alongside other additions to its existing collagen and bone broth ranges and is the first food supplement to win an award from the Marine Stewardship Council in the UK.
This year the eminent MSC UK Awards, which celebrates outstanding achievements and performance in sustainable fishing and seafood across the UK, marked its 10th anniversary hosted at the historic Fishmongers’ Hall in London.
Taking its place amongst ‘big fish’ retailers and brands including Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Bird’s Eye, Planet Paleo’s award of MSC UK Newcomer 2023 represents an important mark of industry recognition for a small, independent company that has remained true to its vision of creating high-quality food supplements with integrity.
Planet Paleo’s mission has always been to pursue the best quality raw ingredients using the most sustainable means available. From the beginning this commitment has inspired its search for a marine collagen that is not just healthy for UK customers but ethically sourced with the best environmental credentials possible.
On accepting the award on behalf of Planet Paleo, Co-Founder and CEO of Living Planet Distribution Graham Botfield, said:
‘When we decided to launch our Marine Collagen we had a choice as to which source of marine collagen to buy and considered all the options. Following the current brands in buying based on price and convenience would have been the simple and easy way. However, because we are an ethical company aiming to represent the benchmark of quality products, this was really never an option. So despite the challenges of purchasing MSC-certified ingredients and becoming MSC certified ourselves, it was a very quick and simple decision. Because for us it is not about doing it the easy way, it is about doing it the right way. [MSC certification] is the right way and we hope to use the award to highlight the importance of quality and ethics when sourcing ingredients. So we’re hugely proud to be part of this esteemed company here, and thank you for recognising this.’
